The Practical Bodhisattva: How to Be a Spiritual Hero in Everyday Life

With Michael Friedman

April 13 - December 21, 2025

On Sundays from 11 am to 1 pm, Lama Michael Friedman offers meditation, study of essential texts, and group discussion, covering varying topics in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. Our atmosphere is informal, the meditation simple and straightforward, and, though some familiarity with buddhadharma is certainly helpful, it is not required. (A good practitioner always cultivates beginner’s mind.)

This spring we will will begin The Practical Bodhisattva: How to Be a Spiritual Hero in Everyday Life an exploration of the Bodhisattva’s path. This course will rely upon three main source texts, along with supplementary sources. A list of supplementary sources will be provided during class. The three main texts include Ornament of Precious Liberation translated by Ken Holmes, Enlightened Courage: An Explanation of the Seven-Point Mind Training by Dilgo Khyentse, and Shantideva’s The Way of the Bodhisattva (Shambala Classics edition). We will have copies available to purchase in our gift shop.

How class goes: a 30 minute session of meditation is followed by questions, answers, and the exchange of experiences. After dedication prayers, there is often lingering over tea and cookies.

Our instructor welcomes you to reach out to him to directly with questions about our Sunday class at [email protected].
