Alash Ensemble: Tuvan Throat Singers
On Saturday, July 18th, from 7:00-8:15pm, the Alash Ensemble, a trio of throat singers and instrumentalists, will present the extraordinary music of their homeland, Tuva.
This trio of globally recognized, master throat singers perform a style of singing that was developed in Central Asia and is most commonly associated with nomadic herders of Mongolia, though people familiar with Tibetan Buddhist ritual will have also heard a style of throat singing. The Alash Ensemble does not limit their music to traditional forms, but also incorporates influences from jazz, bluegrass, Eastern European folk music, and beyond.
The concert will take place in the main shrine hall at Samye Hermitage. Seating is limited to 75 guests. Tickets are $35 each and can be purchased online in advance or at the door.
We are also pleased to announce this concert is made possible with public funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and administered by The Earlville Opera House.
