Mahamudra Retreat: Instructions from the Mahayana & Mahasiddha Traditions

With Phakchok Rinpoche

July 7 - 11, 2025

We are delighted that Phakchok Rinpoche will return this summer to Samye Hermitage New York, his North American seat, to lead a masterclass in the practice of Mahamadura meditation, the profound path to realizing the very nature of our minds. During this week-long retreat, Phakchok Rinpoche will guide participants through the ground, path and the fruition of Mahamudra meditation, using both personal and practical guidance for participants.

As a foundation for this transformative journey, Rinpoche will present fresh insights from the Noble Wisdom at the Time of Death Sutra. This revered Mahayana teaching of Buddha Shakyamuni explores the essence of Buddha nature and provides clear, practical instructions for authentic vipashyana (clear insight) meditation. To learn more about the sutra, visit the Samye Institute course page.

Phakchok Rinpoche will also give instruction the Tilopa’s Ganges Mahamudra Instruction, a seminal teaching from the Mahasiddha tradition. Delivered poetically on the banks of the Ganges River, this text encapsulates Tilopa’s direct guidance to his disciple Naropa. It emphasizes the nature of mind as inherently pure and luminous, untainted by conceptual elaborations.

Who is this for?
This retreat is open to anyone with a sincere interest in connecting with these teachings.

This is the second part of a three-part series of teachings led by Phakchok Rinpoche as part of his residency at Samye Hermitage New York and the Samye Institute Summer Immersion. We warmly invite you to attend one, two, or all three parts of this series—an exceptional opportunity to learn from Rinpoche in the intimate setting of his North American Dharma seat.
